How To Care for a New Tattoo
Now that the hard part of sitting through a tattoo is out of the way, it’s time to take care of that new piece.
CLEANING YOUR NEW TATTOO
Remove bandage, or tattoo wrap, after you get home. Do not bandage or cover again.
Wash your tattoo with Gold Dial antimicrobial unscented soap and water. Make sure to gently wash your tattoo and do not scrub. Then pat to dry, not too rough.
Apply Aquaphor healing ointment three times a day even after it starts to peel. When it is done peeling switch to Lubriderm lotion for the remainder of your healing process (2-3 weeks).
Repeat the washing method & apply antibacterial ointment throughout the day until fully healed.
Avoid clothes that may stick to your new tattoo if possible. Avoid direct sunlight, swimming, or submerging in water for at least 2 weeks. In order to prevent infections stay away from dirty areas, animals, etc.
Signs and symptoms of infection, including but not limited to: redness, swelling, tenderness of the procedure site, red streaks going from the procedure site towards the heart, elevated body temperature, or purulent drainage from the procedure site. If you have any signs or symptoms of tattoo infection seek medical care if necessary.
During this healing process it is normal for the area to peel and feel itchy. DO NOT peel, pick, or scratch at the tattoo during this healing time. You could get an infection or cause fading to your new tattoo.
If you have any more questions on how to care for your new tattoo, be sure to ask your tattoo artist.
